I hadn't realized how long it'd been since I last visited the blog but, holy crap! It's been a seriously long hiatus. My last post was about Everett's six month birthday and he is about to turn one in 20 days!!! Here is a wrap up of 2015 in photos. I wish I was able to put words with all these lovely photos but, whew, 2015 was a FULL year. Some photos are
edited and some are raw, some are blurry and some are on point. But I think these photos help sum up this crazy year as a year full of laughter, tears, experience, and most importantly, LOVE.
how, oh, how did my baby turn 6 months old?! time truly passes in the blink of an eye!
at 6 months Everett is mostly sitting up on his own, is fervently trying to crawl, loves apples, could play with rattles all day, still has baby blues, and FINALLY slept through the night last night! he is a happy, cuddly baby that has changed our lives in so many wonderful ways. we simply can't get enough of him!
miss sybil, the trusty sewing machine, had taken a nice vacation. she visited the caribbean, got a nice tan but missed me. she's ready to shake off the sand and get back to work.
we collaborated to make this apron and i haven't taken it off since the final stitch was in place. it may be the busiest apron there ever has been but i. love. it.
so over that, how long? 5,000,000 days since my last post, i've done quite a lot of thinking, brewing, stewing, and forgiving. actually that last one just came today. forgiveness. although that word contains a lot of letters it can certainly be a simple word with a simple meaning. for too long i have let my happiness be taken by comparison and let curated illusion be my guide posts to life. but today i forgive myself for squandering this time when i should have been embracing imperfection and raw story in search of perfection. today i start to move on and embrace all things REAL. a new journey starts today...
I would like to introduce you to my son, Everett Alan. He was born January twenty eighth at nine twenty six in the morning, weighing in at six pounds and eleven ounces, and measuring nineteen and a half inches long. He is happy, healthy, and an absolute joy! The last weeks have flown by and I can't believe he has been with us for a month already. I'm excited to see what the month of March will bring but I would also be ok with holding on to these little moments a bit longer...
Almost immediately after I found out I was pregnant I knew that I wanted to make our little one a quilt. I scoured Pinterest and Google looking for blocks and patterns and though I found many that I adored I knew that I needed to start somewhere simple. I used to sew much more than I do now and I need more practice before taking on something difficult. By the time I found out that we were having a baby boy I knew exactly what I wanted to do! I took my time choosing what colors I wanted, mapping it out, and carefully making a triangle template that would form Everett's quilt :)
I enjoyed making this quilt so much that it reignited my passion for sewing. I still have a long way to go with my technique but my skills have grown immensely since finishing this quilt and I'm still learning everyday. I have done little else in the last 5 months. It kept me occupied while Tyler was gone on two separate deployments and I now have drawers full of handmade goods for our young man. Bibs, and burp cloths, and blankets, Oh My!
My lovely sister-in-law sent us the first piece of Everett's nursery! This wonderful mobile!
I keep having dreams that Little E comes and we are totally unprepared! We have started to collect some clothes and supplies but no major gear or necessities. Yikes! Tyler is gone now and I am very hesitant to start collecting until he gets back. I really want to be able to share the experience with him, so we will wait! I have the registries mostly completed with the exception of a couple of things we are being indecisive about. Am i running behind? I'm good at leaving things to last minute but this is most definitely not the time to do that! I'll make sure to keep you all updated on my progress :)
